The bench test: DDF3000IPV(-DN) convinced independant test laboratory

For the fourth time, specialist magazine PROTECTOR commissioned a product test of network cameras. The DDF3000IPV(-DN) from Dallmeier was tested and convinced the experts in all areas…

“The future of the video industry will be digital - and also networked. Being showcase products, network cameras perfectly illustrate this trend; the rapid development towards functional as well as high-performance products is having a significant impact on the industry.

Various manufacturers have long been focussing on IP cameras as they believe them to be the solution for video surveillance in the future. That trend is also reflected in the number of potential applications where IP cameras increasingly replace traditional, analogue CCTV cameras.”

“The installation of the Dallmeier camera can be done without major difficulties; only the flat ribbon cable leading to the camera unit turned out to be a bit inflexible. After downloading a rather big Active-X element, followed by a somewhat circuitous installation process, a live image is displayed in the browser. During the practical test, the network load levelled off at an average of 2.5 megabit. When limited to 2 megabit, the data stream stays below that limit even when there is a lot of movement in the image. The camera steadily adheres to predefined bit rate and even at one megabit still delivers good quality.

While the delay remains at a pleasantly low level, artefacts consequently increase. The encoder is working very quickly and without dragging or delay as well as comparatively little formation of artefacts. A specialty of the Dallmeier camera is the MPEG-2 encoder which delivers high quality images but also requires correspondingly high bandwidths. Regarding the subjective impression of the image quality the camera convinces with true colour reproduction and high richness of detail and the white balance is precise. The browser interface is characterised by a clearly structured menu which offers a wide range of functions and is intuitive and convenient in use. A positive surprise is a feature that displays a live image even in the configuration menu.“
